About Us
What is Citizens on Patrol in the greater Nanaimo area?
The Nanaimo Citizens on Patrol is comprised of concerned citizens who volunteer their time, energy, vehicles, and expertise to become the extended “eyes and ears” of their local police detachment. I this day and age, the police simply cannot “do it all” for the communities they serve; they must have the community support in making our streets and property safe for all citizens. Nanaimo Citizens on Patrol has 50 members and an executive committee elected from within the ranks to run the day to day routine operations of the group. In addition, other members volunteer to tasked roles as a scheduler, advertising manager, and social events convener. While the group operated this fashion, it works under the auspices and direction of the RCMP.
Our team members observe and report any suspicious activities to the police. Our patrols consist of 2 person vehicles who on a four hour shift cover many section for the District of Lantzville City
of Nanaimo, and Cedar, looking for illegal activities. Our memebrs do not get directly involved if an offense is witnessed, nor do they exit their vehicles unless decided by a police officer. IF they see something suspicious, they are in contact with e a base radio and it becomes a matter for the police to deal with. Our good safety policy is to protect our members, enabling people of all ages to participate in our patrols. |
